Audra Lukošiūnaitė
Senior Art Education Specialist at apfeldor Solutions UAB
Specializing in watercolor painting of Lithuanian landscapes, urban sketching techniques in Vilnius, and guiding beginner artists through foundational drawing practices and plein air communities.
Her Journey
From student artist to community builder and educator
Audra's journey into professional art education began during her studies at Vilnius Academy of Arts, where she developed a deep passion for capturing Lithuania's distinctive landscapes through watercolor and ink. After graduating in 2010, she worked as a freelance artist and private instructor, eventually realizing that her greatest fulfillment came from mentoring beginners and building inclusive art communities.
In 2015, frustrated by the lack of structured urban sketching groups in Vilnius, she founded the Vilnius Urban Sketchers collective. What started as weekly sketching sessions in Old Town has grown into a thriving community of over 300 active members. They're still there every week, sketchbooks in hand, capturing the architectural details and street scenes that make the city special.
Her approach to teaching emphasizes that technical skill develops through consistent practice in real environments rather than isolated studio work. She's particularly known for her ability to demystify watercolor painting for beginners, breaking down complex landscape techniques into manageable steps that anyone can follow. Plus, she organizes annual plein air painting expeditions in Nida and Trakai that attract 40+ participants each year — artists of all levels, all working side by side in some of Lithuania's most beautiful natural settings.
Her articles and guides reflect her core conviction: creative hobbies should be accessible to everyone, regardless of prior experience. Lithuania's natural beauty and architectural heritage provide perfect subjects for artistic exploration. Whether you're picking up a pencil for the first time or refining your watercolor technique, there's something here for you.

Her Teaching Philosophy
How she approaches art education and community building
Audra doesn't believe in gatekeeping art. She's seen too many people convince themselves they "can't draw" because they didn't start as children or because their first attempts looked rough. Truth is, drawing is a skill you develop through consistent practice, not something you're born knowing how to do.
"Technical skill develops through consistent practice in real environments rather than isolated studio work. When you're sitting by the Vilnius Cathedral sketching its architecture or capturing light on water in Trakai, you're learning in ways a studio exercise can never teach you."
Her workshops are designed around three core principles. First: start with observation. Look at what's actually in front of you before you try to draw it. Second: embrace mistakes. Every wrong line teaches you something. Third: draw in community. It's harder to quit when you're with other people doing the same thing, and it's more fun too.
She's particularly passionate about plein air work — painting outdoors in natural light. There's something about standing in Nida's dunes with a sketchbook or capturing the reflection of Trakai Castle on water that changes how you see. You can't fake that experience. You have to be there.
Her guides and articles reflect this practical, no-nonsense approach. She doesn't overcomplicate things. She gives you the techniques that actually work, the materials you actually need, and the encouragement that actually matters.
